Research Archive Data Repository

Research Archive Data Repository (RADR)

The Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD), part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), is dedicated to leading research and training to understand human development, improve reproductive health, and enhance the lives of children and adolescents. In an effort to make data more accessible to researchers, I helped develop the Research Archive Data Repository (RADR). With requirements based on initial user research, I designed the UI, built the HTML and CSS templates, conducted initial user testing, and worked with the development team for implementation.

Valerie Ervin Branding

Valerie Ervin Branding Campaign

Valerie is a Maryland-based politician and activist. When she was running for office in Montgomery County, she came to me needing campaign material that would set her apart and build a lasting brand as she continued her work in the community and across the state. I wanted to design a brand that was uniquely hers and could be extended and easily associated with her work. The “VE” logo and color scheme was fresh twist, and using the logo to brand her initiatives and calls to action (e.g., “believe” and “give,” among others) resonated with voters, helping put her into office for multiple terms.

Center for Hellenic Studies branding

Center for Hellenic Studies

The Center for Hellenic Studies in Washington, DC, part of Harvard University, is dedicated to the reassertion of the humanism of the ancient world, centering on Hellenic civilization in its widest sense. Today, it stands as a premier research facility, cultivating a repository of materials that attracts scholars, researchers, and students from all over the world. As part of their rebranding effort, I developed a stylized version of the logo depicting the lighthouse of Alexandria, the Pharos, as envisioned in the dream of Alexander the Great. I also translated the design for the Center’s facilities in Greece, with collateral material including business cards, letterhead, and document templates.

Treasury Financial Experience (TFX)

The Bureau of the Fiscal Service, part of the Department of the Treasury, is focused on promoting the financial integrity and operational efficiency of the federal government through exceptional accounting, financing, collections, payments, and shared services. The Bureau needed to modernize, consolidate, and transform its online resources for federal financial guidance, policy, and instruction. I led the design and digital transformation to create the Treasury Financial Experience (TFX), a modern, Drupal-based platform that could be a one-stop-shop for federal financial management.

Silver Spring Zombie Walk

In October 2008, the AFI Silver Theater in Silver Spring was showing NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD (1968) the weekend before Halloween, and a friend of mine and I thought it would be fun to start a zombie walk from a local bar to the theater for the show. We had about 120 participants, and hilarity ensued from the unexpected mayhem. Over the next two years, participation in the Silver Spring Zombie Walk continued to grow to almost 2,000 people, requiring coordination with the theater, law enforcement, and local businesses. This logo was developed for collateral material in the third year, 2010.

Contemporary Insurance Services

Contemporary Insurance Services (CIS) is an independent insurance agency serving the medical professional liability and other insurance needs of over 4,000 health care providers nationwide. To build their new brand, I wanted to focus on the circular continuum of care these providers give to their patients. The logo incorporates the “CIS” into that circle of care and was extended to stationery, web site, print collateral, booth graphics, tchotchkes, and more.
